M5 Hosting Begins Operations at Second Data Center in San Diego

M5 Hosting, a worldwide leader in customized, high performance Linux and BSD dedicated server hosting solutions, announced today it has begun operations at its new data center at 9305 Lightwave Ave. in San Diego. It is the company’s second data center facility.

By adding the second facility, M5 Hosting is able to introduce a variety of important new services, including off-site data backup and multi-location redundancy for dedicated server customers. The company also is nearing capacity at its existing facility, and needs significant additional rack space to continue its robust growth in 2010. M5 Hosting has grown by 100% or more each year since its founding in 2001.

“Many of our fast-growing customers are asking for services that require multiple facilities, such as off-site backups, multi-site redundancy, disaster recovery sites, and more. We also need additional space to keep growing at our current rate and to keep delivering the sort of customer-focused flexible services we have been delivering for 9 years now,” said Michael J. McCafferty, principal of M5 Hosting.

The new facility is an 80,000 square-foot purpose-built data center located in the San Diego Spectrum area of San Diego, California. Originally built to support a large defense contractor and its government contracts, the facility has recently been updated with the latest in highly-efficient power and cooling systems. The data center is a SAS 70 Type II compliant facility that features an impressive 12+ Megawatts of power, N+1 or 2N redundancy on all data center systems and security protocols required by leading businesses in the most stringent verticals. The facility is owned by American Internet Services, the largest data center provider in San Diego.

M5 Hosting will maintain a dedicated high-speed data connection between its two facilities, which can be quickly scaled to 10Gbps or more to accommodate higher bandwidth needs if required. New customers will be able to select their preferred data center when ordering their dedicated servers. M5 Hosting’s existing data center is located approximately 10 miles from the new facility at 9725 Scranton Road, San Diego, in the San Diego Tech Center. The San Diego Tech Center location is also owned and operated by American Internet Services.

All services are available at both facilities, including KVM over IP, switched power outlets for Web-based reboots, private VLANs, Virtual Rack, dedicated firewalls, bandwidth a la carte, colocation, remote hands, and others. Load-balancing, which is currently available at the San Diego Tech Center location, will also be available at the new Lightwave location. Additionally, premium professional services and all server models are also available at both facilities.
