Red Hat Expands Relationship with Amazon Web Services

Red Hat, Inc. today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Amazon Web Services (AWS). In addition to being able to bring their own licenses to AWS, customers can now quickly and easily purchase supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux via AWS’s on demand, pay as you go Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). This new offering will be available in the coming weeks, to customers worldwide in every AWS Region.

Amazon EC2 is a web service that provides highly available, secure, on demand, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers, commercial ISVs and enterprise IT organizations worldwide. Using the AWS management console, EC2 users can quickly procure and provision EC2 instances preconfigured with supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 and only pay for the hours that they consume.

“We are pleased to offer supported enterprise-class Red Hat Enterprise Linux on demand for our customers,” said Terry Wise, director of Business Development for Amazon Web Services. “Our customers have been vocal about their need to provision supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the same way that they provision AWS EC2 and only pay for what they use. This announcement is the result of an extensive collaboration between Red Hat and AWS to satisfy real customer needs.”

“Giving developers broad access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux using Amazon EC2 is an important step in our evolution in the cloud,” said Scott Crenshaw, vice president and general manager, Cloud Business at Red Hat. “This is about giving customers and developers choice on how they deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux and work to build the industry’s next-generation applications.”

Existing Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers are able to instantiate Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 in all Amazon EC2 Regions today under the Red Hat Cloud Access capability of Red Hat subscriptions. Red Hat will work with Amazon over the coming months to additionally enable on-demand instances and support options and migrate existing on-demand beta customers to Amazon supported on-demand instances.

MyMLVPD Announce VPS, Virtual Desktop, and Dedicated Hosting Web Design and SEO Services

MyMLVPD is an organization at the heart of today’s internet hosting revolution. MyMLVPD offers its Microsoft windows web hosting services at a fraction of their competition. Testing has shown their network to be very reliable and their servers are cutting-edge SuperMicro dual Xeon 6 core nodes with 144GB of Ram. MyMLVPD links these servers to an ultra-fast RAID 10 SAN. The trial VPS ran hard drive intensive applications with ease. They use Hyper-V as their hypervisor. This assures a person’s resources really are dedicated. A good number of VDS vendors rely on hypervisors which share resources VMware and Parallels are two of the better recognized hypervisors that share resources but there are several more. Anytime a virtual server mentions burst able RAM it relies on shared resources. The problem with shared resources is it’s not guaranteed and vendors tend to oversell it.

If your company’s online store uses the dot net platform then there are a few other advantages to choosing a host that utilizes Hyper-V, an obvious one being that Microsoft knows Windows a lot better than anyone else. Any Microsoft OS will run like a champ within Hyper-V. MyMLVPD said they analyzed virtually all of the leading virtualization solutions before deciding upon Hyper-V. In an interview Dave Cox their CEO said, “We setup side by side trial to determine which hypervisor to purchase for Windows hosting. Hyper-V was able to handle intense loads better than its rivals.”

MyMLVPD offers more than simply virtual Microsoft windows 2008 R2 servers. They provide Windows Desktop hosting and Windows Dedicated Server hosting from their website. Every one of their products are completely customizable and come standard with 24/7 technical support. Their technical support associates are available by electronic mail, telephone and the customer support portal. Their support portal is basically a help desk and allows users to create trouble tickets, browse the knowledge base as well as talk with a customer service representative. We asked their CEO David Cox about their support portal and he said, “Our support portal is brand new and it has allowed our agents to solve tickets a lot faster. Currently the knowledge base is short on content but that will soon change. Our customers really like the fact that they can open a new ticket by sending an email to the proper department.”

They provide their users with much more than VPS, virtual desktop and dedicated server hosting. Just recently they added professional web designers and SEO gurus to their staff. When we asked Dave to describe the process of creating me a custom web site and this is what he had to say.

“First of all our creative designers are going to create a fantastic UI (user interface) for your website. After the customer approves the GUI our developers will start writing the code that makes the site function. Our developers are experts and will have the site ready for Onsite search engine optimization in no time. Our SEO professionals will make sure that all of the on-site Search engines optimizing tasks are completed. The customer will then approve the final site. After the final approval our internet marketing gurus will research whatever market the website belongs in and start an organic SEO campaign. The campaign starts with rewriting all of the customers content using proper keyword density and having copywriters create several 300-700 word articles related to your chosen niche and press releases introducing your company. They will create social media profiles, blogs and web 2.0 profiles. Then they publish the articles and press releases. They will create RSS feeds from them and create links to the content from the Web 2.0 and SMM sites. All of these tactics will create lots of backlinks to your website which in turn generates traffic to your website that is focused on your chosen niche. It’s all very exciting”

MyMLVPD provides a solution for everyone. From basic VPS hosting to a full-fledged major site release. Businesses no longer are required to have a technology division in house. MyMLVPD will create a beautiful webpage, edit its content, host the web site, monitor the server, download updates, perform routine maintenance and drive traffic to the website.

Xerox and Cisco to Form Alliance to Deliver Cloud Services

Xerox Corporation and Cisco announced today that they intend to form an alliance to simplify IT management by delivering cloud-based services and technology solutions that combine network intelligence and print.

The alliance plans to bring Xerox’s market-leading managed print and cloud IT outsourcing (ITO) services to customers over Cisco’s intelligent network infrastructure. Both companies will arm channel partners with solutions that help businesses extend their existing IT investments to improve performance and reduce cost.

Through this alliance, Xerox and Cisco plan to make IT applications more accessible and improve efficiency for the workforce with solutions such as mobile printing – the ability to print from any device, anytime, anywhere.

“This relationship puts Xerox and Cisco at the center of a simplified, connected infrastructure – bringing together networking, printing and cloud services,” said Ursula Burns, chairman and CEO, Xerox. “Together we’re helping businesses transition to the cloud in ways that best suit their operations, and add the services needed to enhance security and productivity for employees.”

Xerox and Cisco are collaborating to deliver the following solutions:

* Xerox Managed Print Services (MPS) over Cisco Borderless Networks: consolidate IT and print management using the network’s embedded security, WAN optimization, and Internetwork Operating System (IOS) software. The combined solution monitors print technology and reduces operating costs, protects confidential data from any location, and improves employee productivity with advanced mobile and cloud printing applications.
* Xerox Cloud ITO Services built on Cisco UCS and Vblock infrastructure: help customers accelerate the rollout of new IT services, so they can better respond to changing needs of the workforce and reduce IT costs through a private cloud, the public cloud or a hybrid cloud environment. These cloud services from ACS, A Xerox Company include infrastructure as a service (IaaS), cloud consulting services, and private cloud deployments.
* Xerox Mobile Print Solution on Cisco virtual desktop clients and Cisco Cius™: allows mobile workers to securely print business documents from any email-enabled device – including Cisco virtual desktops clients and Cisco Cius business tablets – to any enabled printer, using Cisco Borderless Networks and Wireless LAN solutions for reliable and seamless connectivity from any location.

“Aligning Cisco and Xerox cloud offerings brings the power of intelligent networking to printing to help our mutual customers drive innovation across their businesses and become more agile and reduce costs. This strategic alliance also creates a tremendous opportunity for channel partners to grow revenue by building cloud practices,” said John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco.

Availability:
Today, Xerox and Cisco are working with channel partners so they can resell, deliver and manage Xerox private and public cloud services on Cisco’s Data Center and Borderless Network architectures. These services, including IaaS, private cloud environments, and MPS, have been released for limited availability to Cisco channel partners. The alliance intends to provide Cisco channel partners with new ways to reduce costs and track print usage for customers, while Xerox channel partners can take advantage of Cisco Smart Services (such as Cisco Smart Care) to support customers’ network solutions. Xerox Mobile Print can be accessed from Cisco virtual desktop clients and Cius when they are generally available.
