Interoute Communications Ltd, owner operator of Europe’s largest next-generation network, has acquired KPN’s 3,600 dark fibre network to provide organisations with network diversity into the main commercial hubs of Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, as well as six additional cities including, Dusseldorf, Cologne-Bonn, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Kehl.

By combining KPN’s network with Europe’s most advanced and densely connected voice and data network, Interoute is adding more resilience, diversity and density into the heart of its West European fibre network. The deal allows KPN to focus on providing managed and value-added services to its customers in Germany, secure in the knowledge that it has a partner with the expertise to provide any dark fibre it may need now and in the future.

Gareth Williams, Interoute CEO, commented, “We are constantly looking at ways to enhance our network, extending its reach and technical prowess. By acquiring a network that takes a different path through Germany, we’ve not only added an extra layer of network resilience at a pivotal position within Europe, but we’ve doubled our network size in Germany. across Europe, network diversity is essential to ensure that they have the flexibility to support their ever-changing network and business needs.”

The 3,600 kilometer dark fibre network comprises 2 ducts, 96 fibre pairs and 27 ILAs. As part of the deal, KPN will lease back 4 to 5 fibre pairs from Interoute to support KPN customers in Germany. In addition, Interoute will acquire KPN’s existing fibre customers.

Interoute will optimise its existing and acquired network in Germany to gain operational efficiencies and performance benefits. Once the network optimisation work is complete, new more direct fibre routes will become available, bringing low latency benefits to enterprise and wholesale customers across Europe. At the same time, wholesale customers in Germany will gain access to Interoute’s services and expertise which they can use to support their network needs.

UK2 Net Launch Cloud Hosting

UK2.net a member of the UK2 Group, has successfully launched their own cloud infrastructure. Cloud technology seems to be the latest buzz at the moment and UK2 have used this opportunity wisely by adding some great cloud hosting packages, mainly business hosting, reseller hosting and VPS, to their growing arsenal of products.

UK2 have started 2011 by launching a very impressive cloud hosting platform. This powerful cloud based infrastructure means that a number of improvements & upgrades have been made to the hosting packages across UK2’s product suite.

Cloud hosting is faster and more efficient. This is due to a lower contention ratio on the network which means that their customer’s websites will load faster and work quicker than before. The UK2 cloud allows servers and hosting packages to offer full redundancy – UK2 have done away with the traditional single points of failure such as hard drives, power supplies and single servers and should a customer’s website or server fail or crash it instantly moves to a new piece hardware and continues to run. In affect it auto-heals itself to keep on working. In the event of a sudden surge in traffic, customers will have the option to add RAM to their cloud to handle the larger load of work. All of these new upgrades help to maximise uptime across all networks which is a huge positive for website owners across the UK.

Martin Baker, Managing Director at UK2, said: “We are constantly rolling out new and improved products to keep up with the demand of technology. Cloud hosting is one of those advancements in technology that will change the way we look at hosting. In the last few months we have seen a culmination of hard work and innovation bring to life a faster, more efficient and powerful cloud hosting platform which we have now implemented with immediate effect and is available on our website.”

The future appears to be very bright up on the cloud with UK2 acting as a shining beacon for all to follow. There are already hosting companies offering cloud services but when taking into account the fact that UK2.net have pulled together valuable resources and experiences from other company’s within their group, namely VPS.net and Onapp, to build an advanced cloud, there is little doubt over the quality of this product.

Martin ended off: “We have 100% confidence in our cloud hosting products and our customers will, without a doubt, enjoy a far superior hosting experience on our cloud platform. At the moment this is an advanced product, but we can easily see this as being the future of hosting where one day our customers will see cloud hosting as the standard – right now though it will blow their expectations out of the water.”

The hosting platform of today, cloud hosting has burst on to the scene and is changing the way we do business, the way we think and the way we use technology. UK2.net are now pitching it as the superior way to host a website and with all the advantages and benefits the cloud has brought to the table it’s hard to disagree.

Conseal Security, the provider of solutions to secure data on the move, today announced that following an extensive evaluation of the market, it has selected iomart Hosting to provide the online delivery platform for its cloud-based security remote management console and remote device authentication solutions.

Under the agreement, iomart will provide web and server hosting solutions for all aspects of Conseal’s business, including hosting the company’s public web site, ecommerce facilities, customer secure site, email, remote management console, end user software downloads and audit trail service.

“As the platform we use for hosting underpins everything we do, from the web site through to the remote management console, it was important that it kept with our ingrained security ethos,” said Tom Colvin, chief technology officer of Conseal Security.

The decision to select iomart came after an extensive evaluation of all the leading UK enterprise web and server hosting companies. Conseal looked at reliability, server and datacentre security, speed of connection, fault tolerance and speed of resolution following service interruption − areas in which iomart excelled.

“A solid underlying platform is critical to the success of our business and to ensuring our customers have a seamless, uninterrupted experience with our solutions in a secure environment. Having the ability to deliver client software and our cloud-based management console from iomart’s hosting infrastructure will give us a definite competitive and operational edge in a market where reliability and security are paramount,” Colvin continued.

“We are delighted that Conseal has selected iomart Hosting for its cloud hosting requirements. Conseal’s burgeoning reputation is built on its ability to offer its clients robust security whilst on the move, therefore the selection of a cloud hosting provider with proven security systems and credentials was of paramount importance to them,” said Phil Worms, director of marketing at iomart Hosting.

“Conseal’s investment in our fully managed cloud services has shown how cloud computing has now come of age and has become a fully trusted delivery method,” Worms added. “Our cloud services operate around-the-clock in highly controlled environments, with multiple fail-safes in place to ensure maximum availability, enabling us to offer Conseal the security guarantees it required.”
