Private Equity Firm Freshstream Takes Controlling Stake in Worldstream

Freshstream has announced its investment in Worldstream, a leading Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) provider based in the Netherlands, taking a controlling stake in the company. Worldstream, which owns data centers and operates over 15,000 servers worldwide, is well-positioned in the growing IaaS market, driven by a shift towards outsourced infrastructure and increasing data consumption. Freshstream recognizes Worldstream’s strong growth track record and exceptional customer service.

Founded in 2006 by Dirk Vromans and Lennert Vollebregt, Worldstream has expanded significantly under their leadership. Although they stepped back from executive roles in 2020, both will retain minority shares in the company post-transaction. Freshstream has been impressed with Worldstream’s recent transformation, which has enhanced its market proposition and organizational governance.

Headquartered in Naaldwijk, Netherlands, Worldstream employs over 70 people and serves more than 2,500 global clients. The company operates two data centers connected to AMS-IX, a major international internet exchange. With Freshstream’s investment, Worldstream aims to accelerate its growth, led by incoming CEO Ruben van der Zwan and new Board member Eric Boonstra as non-executive Chair.

Worldstream becomes the seventh investment in Freshstream’s first independent fund, joining a portfolio of high-growth, entrepreneur-founded businesses such as Project Better Energy, DeterTech, Bella Figura Music, Big Motoring World, Nafinco, and MCR.
