Adhost Internet Opens New Data Center

Adhost Internet, one of the Seattle region’s leading providers of server colocation, dedicated servers and cloud hosting, finished construction of its third data center in downtown Seattle – just in time for the upcoming stormy winter forecasted for western Washington.

“Businesses continue to seek secure data centers with redundant Internet connections, power and cooling for their servers storing critical, sensitive data,” said Will Riffle, Adhost President and CEO. “We’ve designed a redundant Seattle colocation facility to keep business servers running and online even during natural disasters and the worst winter storms.”

The new Seattle data center, named Adhost West 2, was built using the latest data center technology and a detailed design. It’s adjacent to the second data center Adhost opened in 2007. Both are housed in Seattle’s Fisher Plaza, a Northwest telecommunications hub where other telecommunication and Internet companies are located including KOMO 4 Television, Fisher Radio, AT&T, AboveNet, Time Warner Telecom, MCI, Verizon and more.

Built to meet or exceed N+1 standards for its critical systems, Fisher Plaza is well prepared for severe windstorms, earthquakes, and other calamities. The downtown Seattle location removes any risk of flooding from local rivers or issues with the Howard Hanson Dam. Adhost’s data centers are housed in secure buildings that exceed California seismic zone four standards —the toughest in the nation and the same for new hospitals and police stations.

Adhost also provides a secure environment within its data centers as verified by annual SAS 70 Type II audits. Auditors thoroughly examine the policies, procedures and businesses processes in place at Adhost. Clients including publicly traded companies, healthcare organization and financial firms can use the audit report for their own security compliance requirements for Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA, PCI DSS and others. With round-the-clock monitoring by in-house technical support staff, some of the region’s biggest businesses have servers colocated at Adhost.

But Adhost’s newest Seattle data center isn’t just secure, it’s also environmentally sensitive. Adhost is cutting energy costs and consumption with louvers that wrap around the outside its data centers. These louvers exchange air with the outside when it’s cold enough, reducing Adhost’s consumption of electricity for data center cooling in chilly Seattle. And the electricity comes from Seattle City Light which is 88% hydro-electric power.

“With the success and energy savings of the louver system in our second data center, we incorporated them again in the latest one,” Riffle said. “Today’s servers are built to run faster and therefore hotter. Our green data center design is helping reduce energy costs and the power needed to cool the new servers.”
