Nexcess, operator of a PCI compliant Michigan data center, has announced the addition of Global Crossing (GBLX) to the facility’s network. Effective immediately, Nexcess’ web hosting clients that receive service from the company’s Dearborn, Michigan data center can enjoy this addition to the company’s already notably diverse list of tier 1 upstream bandwidth providers.
The addition of Global Crossing to a pre-existing network with BGPv4 connectivity to Level(3), Savvis, and Cogent is intended to uniquely improve connectivity speeds to users located around the globe, as well as those behind any other provider that happens to purchase their connectivity from Global Crossing’s massive backbone network. As Global Crossing has stated that they provide for more than 40 percent of all Fortune 500 companies, in addition to 700 carriers, mobile operators, and ISP’s worldwide, the number of such providers that Nexcess has achieved faster connectivity towards is very plainly significant.
“Making Global Crossing a part of our data center’s network should do a lot of great things to improve performance and reliability for all of our hosting clients,” commented Chris Wells, President & CEO of Nexcess, “Connecting directly to more providers means shorter routes, and shorter routes mean faster web sites.”
Beyond achieving shorter routes between servers and clients, this improvement is made with the intent of increasing redundancy, and therefore, reliability in all of the hosting services that Nexcess provides. And, in addition to the benefits seen by Nexcess’ existing clients at their 3,200 sq. foot, raised floor facility in located in Dearborn, Michigan, Global Crossing bandwidth has also already been made available for the company’s Southfield, Michigan facility, currently estimated to be openingopen in Q4 of 2011.
