Go Daddy is celebrating its mark on Internet history … surpassing the 50 million domain name milestone over the weekend. Go Daddy is the only registrar organization in the history of the Internet to manage this many domain names.
The 50 millionth domain name is DBAkit.com, registered by Kranthi Kumar Kukkala of India.
The milestone illustrates the enduring power of the Internet, even during difficult economic times. As financial and employment challenges persist around the globe, Go Daddy’s fast-paced registrations are a clear sign the Internet is booming big time.
Experts predict by the year 2015, there will be more than two network connections for each person on earth and nearly three billion Internet users worldwide. For the last several years Go Daddy has been registering, renewing or transferring more than one domain name every second of every day.
“Sometimes you hear people say all the good domain names are gone, but they are dead wrong,” said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. “An almost unlimited supply of great names is available … right now. In fact, Go Daddy is registering two-and-a-half times more domains a month now, than we were five years ago. Why? Domain names are like 21st century real estate. They allow you to own your own place on the Internet.”
Domain names are mostly used for website addresses, but are also at the root of owning customized email or an online store. For consumers, shopping and researching goods and services online are increasingly important, yet many businesses are still working to establish their own websites.
“Our research shows that more than 40 percent of small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) do not have an online presence right now,” said IDC analyst Ray Boggs. “Hard to believe, but a lot of companies still haven’t stepped up to use a company website to reach prospects and customers. Of course this means firms like Go Daddy have what it takes to help SMBs, especially when offering one-stop online resources for SMBs to move from nothing to Web presence to major business generating activities.”
Go Daddy was developed to help business owners and individuals secure their online presence. And while Go Daddy put domain names into mainstream consciousness with edgy Super Bowl commercials, it has been the legendary 24/7 customer support and feature-rich cloud-based products that have kept Go Daddy in its industry-leading market position.
In addition to being the planet’s largest domain name registrar, Go Daddy is also the world’s largest provider of Web hosting and net-new SSL Certificates, which secure websites and other sensitive information. Go Daddy also operates the largest domain name aftermarket on the Internet, a place where registered domain names are auctioned, sold or purchased.
“For all the marketing we do … it’s the word-of-mouth, a customer’s personal endorsement … that works as Go Daddy’s most effective advertisement,” Parsons said.
Go Daddy’s 50 millionth registrant had no idea he was registering a milestone domain name. Kukkala’s website, www.DBAkit.com , is already online and is dedicated to providing Oracle Database administrators business advice.
“I am really happy to go with the Go Daddy and congratulate the company on its 50 millionth domain name registration,” said Kukkala. “I like Go Daddy for domain & Web hosting providers because of its customer service, reliability and user-friendly-set-up that work for any kind of computer user.”
