SMEStorage Cloud FTP Provides Access to Over 30 File Storage Clouds

SMEStorage, the Open Cloud File Server Appliance company, today announced that their CloudFTP feature add-on for their open cloud platform now supports over 30 popular file and storage services.

CloudFTP is unique in that it adds a ubiquitous FTP access layer to Storage Clouds that do not natively support the FTP protocol. This means transferring files can be as easy as launching an FTP client and selecting the files to be moved, no matter what Cloud the files are stored on.

Uploading data to different File Clouds becomes as simple as switching cloud storage directories within the same FTP session.

Ian Osborne, SMEStorage CEO, stated, “Our CloudFTP feature opens up silo’d or inaccessible Clouds to Organisation who require FTP and currently have to maintain a separate FTP server.

“If you look at most of the storage vendors they either don’t support FTP or want you to move your files across to their service to be able to use FTP. What is the point of that? It is just another silo’d lock-in. With our service, and the CloudFTP feature, if you want FTP access to say S3, Google Docs, Google Sites, or even SharePoint, then fine, we can make that happen, even though these services do not natively support FTP. We now can do this for over 30 file and SaaS services that you can use with our Open Cloud Platform.

“The end users of our service have a simple and easy way to transfer and access data from their existing File Cloud without needing to change vendors, which is accessible anywhere, from any desktop or device that can support FTP.

“The best part is that even when using CloudFTP all the files that are transferred are still audited using the Platform’s in-built cloud governance, so you have full traceability as an Organization.”

The SMEStorage Open Cloud Platform acts as a cloud data broker in which access can be managed and granted to File Stores and Saas Services that are authorised for use with the service. It provides a unique single view of data in which files can be accessed and managed from all desktops and devices.

TELEHOUSE America’s NYIIX maxes over 200 Gigabits of internet traffic

TELEHOUSE America, the United States’ leading provider of dedicated data centers, international Internet exchanges, and managed IT services, announces today that its public peering interconnection point, New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), has exceeded the 200Gbps (gigabits per second) max traffic volume threshold. In April 2011, TELEHOUSE announced they had reached the 100 gigabit milestone, which meant traffic had doubled in less than 18 short months. Now it has doubled again in less than a year. Currently, NYIIX is the biggest public Internet exchange in the New York Metro Market. It is also in the top 10 of the world’s largest peering points.

Established in 1996, NYIIX has quickly become the most popular neutral exchange point in New York, consisting of 146 active peering members from all over the world. It is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the United States’ east coast and is owned and operated by TELEHOUSE America. This increase in traffic demonstrates TELEHOUSE’s ability to attract both large ISP’s to the exchange and showcases the huge benefits of peering to smaller companies looking to reduce costs.

NYIIX’s main goal is to provide the Internet community with a neutral, scalable peering infrastructure and to assure reliable and robust Internet connectivity. With plans to invest in redundant infrastructure and expand access in other local carrier hotels, NYIIX provides 1G and 10G connections in the following:
 111 8th Avenue  TELEHOUSE New York Broadway,  TELEHOUSE New York Teleport on Staten Island  TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea located on 85 10th Avenue  60 Hudson St

NYIIX offers public peering as well as private peering over VLAN. This enables independent networks to exchange internet traffic to complement and supplement public or paid bandwidth networks. By peering with TELEHOUSE, customers interconnect over a layer-2 switch to many ISPs, content and application providers, at numerous locations, providing a more cost effective and improved network performance solution.
“NYIIX is one of the most exciting services offered by TELEHOUSE. We are delighted to announce such a huge success,” says Akio Sugeno, Vice President of Internet Engineering, Operations, and Business Development. “Achieving 200 gigabits per second is no small accomplishment, and it further proves that NYIIX is one of the most significant IXP’s in the United States. As we move into 2012, we will continue to expand NYIIX’s presence in the New York Metro Market and make further investment in the infrastructure to support the needs of our members.”

The NYIIX platform is regularly updated in order to accommodate new trends and technology requirements. TELEHOUSE is looking forward to announcing new updates in Q1 of 2012.

Rackspace Announce Private Beta for MySQL Cloud Database

Rackspace have announced the Rackspace MySQL Cloud Database Private Beta for US customers by invitation only, says the Rackspace blog.

Historically, customers running relational databases in the cloud have suffered from poor and inconsistent performance as a result of the limitations inherited from the underlying hardware virtualization platform. These constraints are common across most infrastructure providers, including Rackspace.

Rackspace has taken a fundamentally different approach to solving this problem by eliminating the overhead of traditional virtualization platforms and utilizing a container-based solution to provide a high performance MySQL relational database service. This solution provides resource isolation and allows you to quickly and easily automate complex database administration tasks.

Designed specifically for databases, our offering leverages dedicated SAN storage with built-in data replication that gives you high-speed access and redundancy for your data.

Currently, the Rackspace MySQL Cloud Database API operations for the Private Beta include:

• List, add, and remove database instances
• List, add, and remove databases
