RAD ETX-203A Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Unit Wins Award

RAD Data Communications’ ETX-203A Carrier Ethernet network termination unit has been recognized with the 2010 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Price Performance Value Leadership. The award endorses the ETX-203A as a feature-rich, comprehensive solution at an extremely competitive price.

RAD is showing the ETX-203A and other members of its extensive line of Carrier Ethernet products for mobile backhaul and network access applications at the Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona this week. RAD is in Stand 1D01 in Hall 1.0.

The Frost & Sullivan award is given annually to a company whose product is judged by the analyst organization to best suit market and its clients’ needs based upon price competitiveness, features, ease of use of the product, and the service effectiveness of the company.

Frost & Sullivan declared that the ETX-203A has “reset the average selling price of Carrier Ethernet demarcation devices without compromising on features” and is “one of the most feature-rich products on the market” Frost & Sullivan went on to say that the ETX-203A comprehensively addresses service provider requirements in the areas of traffic management, service creation, SLA assurance, device management, and lifecycle cost optimization.

RAD introduced the ETX-203A in September 2010 as a “game changing” solution that lowers the CapEx barrier for service providers in the business services market. The network termination unit is based on RAD’s in-house developed EtherAccess™ Carrier Ethernet ASIC, which enables RAD to offer the ETX-203A at a highly competitive price and on a licensing-based pay-as-you-grow basis.

“Receiving a prestigious award such as this is not only an honor, but a validation of RAD’s approach to the Carrier Ethernet market,” said Ron Agam, Director of Product Line Management for RAD Data Communications. “We brought the ETX-203A to market specifically to deliver the benefits of RAD’s EtherAccess technology at a price point that removes financial obstacles for service providers who want to offer Ethernet business services. Frost & Sullivan’s recognition of the ETX-203A confirms our strategy.”

Hostirian Launches New Line of Cloud Services

Hostirian, L.L.C., a leading provider of business-class shared, VPS, dedicated servers, collocation and cloud-based blogging platforms, today launched a new line of Cloud Packages (powered by Citrix XenServer), offering cloud-based services for those customers with requirements that extend beyond a normal hosting environment.

Citing a growing trend toward cloud hosting, Hostirian has begun offering five new cloud services, which are supported by multiple state-of-the-art servers. Each server/node features 74GB of high speed RAM and Dual Intel X5650 Hexacore processors on an N+1 architecture. All of the packages are hosted on 15,000 RPM SCSI drives in a RAID10 configuration, giving our customers outstanding disk performance while maintaining a high level of redundancy. Those servers are backed by a multi-homed 10Gbps Cisco network. Plus, high availability (HA)/Self Healing technology is standard on all of their Cloud Services.

High availability (HA) eliminates the need for dedicated standby hardware and software in a virtualized environment. Self healing has the ability to perceive that it is not operating correctly and, without human intervention, make the necessary adjustments to restore itself to normal operation. This means that cost is minimized for our clients, while speed and redundancy is maximized.

“We recognized the need for a cost-effective 100% uptime solution for cloud services, to address our customers’ growing requirements,” said Ken Cox, Vice President of Operations. “This new line of cloud packages offers them the best range of cloud services available industry-wide. Our customers can feel comfortable that their data is safe and their website will be online 100% of the time.”

The new cloud packages are the Standard, Business, Advanced, Extreme and Elite, ranging from $175/month to $1249/month.
