Commtouch® announced that Hostway, long time customer of Commtouch, is experiencing significant success with the implementation of Commtouch’s Outbound Spam Protection.
Hostway Corporation provides cloud hosting, managed hosting, shared hosting, colocation, domain name registration, ecommerce solutions and other Web-based services to over 1.4 million websites and 600,000 customers worldwide, including clients such as Sony Music, Coca Cola and Fox News.
“Spammers were using phished accounts to send spam out from our network, so we were looking for a solution to recover compromised accounts, block spammers and prevent our IP addresses from being blacklisted,” said Todd Benjamin, Hostway executive vice president. “Our Commtouch inbound solution was working so successfully for us, we naturally turned to Commtouch for outbound spam protection.”
As described in a jointly developed case study about the solution, Hostway is using Outbound Spam Protection as an internal security measure to review all outbound mail traffic. The solution has helped Hostway to not only identify compromised and phished accounts but also “trickle spam” that otherwise couldn’t be detected because it was below set rate limits. Blocking outbound spam in real-time with Commtouch’s solution has prevented Hostway from being blacklisted by major ISPs.
At Hostway and other service providers, Commtouch’s Outbound Spam Protection solution can prevent customer loss, damage to service providers’ reputation and brand, operational cost increases and even potential lawsuits caused by spam, malware and phishing emails emanating from their networks. Commtouch’s Outbound Spam Protection solution not only enables service providers to stop these unwanted emails but also provides immediate sender identification, enabling appropriate management of the source of the problem and not only the symptoms. The solution also detects any type of outbound spam source, including zombie computers, compromised accounts, spammer accounts and webmail spammers.
“Our Outbound Spam Protection solution continues to prove its unique value,” said Francois Depayras, vice president, Americas sales and business development. “Designed specifically to combat outbound spam, it overcomes the shortcomings of other alternatives, such as reversed inbound filters. Our service provider partners see the benefit almost immediately.”
