Force10 Networks, Inc., a global technology leader that data center, service provider and enterprise customers rely on when the network is their business, today announced that Interpark, the leading online auction and shopping services provider in South Korea, has selected its E-Series® core Ethernet switch/router to provide reliable network services for its growing business. When faced with Internet traffic that was sharply increasing, Interpark decided to build a new and more reliable network backbone that can scale to accommodate even greater traffic volumes in the future.
“The overall popularity of our services has caused network traffic to grow significantly and often unpredictably,” said Ji-Youn Yoo, manager of the network operations, Interpark. “The ability of Force10’s core switch/routers to consistently and reliably deliver line-rate Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) throughput, combined with its unmatched port density provided us with a solid network infrastructure that can effectively scale to meet our ever-increasing bandwidth demands going forward.”
With about 15 million users and more than 40 million unique visitors each month, Interpark generates revenues only when consumers have consistent access to its network. As a portal-oriented business, reliable access to the website is the lifeblood of the organization. Interpark deployed two E600 core switches installed at LG TELECOM/KIDC, the largest Internet data center in Seoul, South Korea.
In addition to access, Interpark wanted customers to consistently enjoy a latency-free shopping experience. Deploying the TeraScale E600 core switch/router provides a 900 Gbps switch fabric capacity with a full-mesh forwarding capacity of 500 Mpps and a backplane capacity of 2.7 Tbps. Its modular, 3-CPU Force10 Operating System (FTOS) architecture facilitates this performance and reliability with guaranteed packet delivery through virtual output queues that minimize latency and eliminate head-of-line blocking. Additionally, the TeraScale ASICs and E-Series architecture enable line-rate performance with QoS and Access Control Lists (ACLs), jumbo frame support, with simultaneous L2 switching and IPv4 and IPv6 routing.
Force10 Provides Future-Proof Core Network Infrastructure
With millions of present and future customers reliant on Interpark’s online services infrastructure, its IT operations team wanted to ensure its core network could seamlessly and cost effectively accommodate future growth without interruption. With 48-port GbE line cards installed, the E600 can deliver a density of up to 672 line-rate, non-blocking GbE ports in a single chassis. This density also reduces the number of devices to manage, which contributes significantly to lower management and power/cooling costs.
“In the world of online auction services, unreliable network performance can be catastrophic to company growth and reputation. Purpose-built for portal-type service provider environments, the E-Series combines modular software with hardware that delivers best-in-class resiliency, unmatched scalability and line-rate performance,” says Steve Garrison, vice president of marketing, Force10 Networks. “To their credit, Interpark recognized that not only could they improve their existing performance but build a solid network foundation to accommodate anticipated growth.”
