Equinix To Open Fourth IBX Data Center in Paris

Equinix, Inc. announced that it is constructing a fourth International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in the Paris metropolitan area. The new data center (PA4), scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2012, will further extend Platform Equinix in Europe to meet strong demand for premium interconnection and colocation services in Paris and across the region.

The location of PA4, near the center of Paris, will be highly attractive to customers, particularly as future data center developments are expected to face long lead-times to secure power in and around the city. Equinix has experienced sustained growth for its data center services in Paris, with the first phase of its PA3 IBX center, which opened in April 2010, now effectively full, and the second phase, due to open in the second quarter of 2011, expected to be full by the time the new PA4 center opens. Equinix customers are already recognizing PA4’s strategic importance in their long-term data center plans, with 20 percent of the space available in the first phase already sold.

“Paris is a growing market for Equinix due to its strategic location in the world economy and the superior performance of our data center design and operations. We continue to invest in Paris, and across Europe, to keep pace with the strong demand we’ve seen in this market,” said Eric Schwartz, President, Europe, at Equinix. “The new Paris IBX is an important addition that will support our growing base of network, financial, content, enterprise, and cloud and IT services customers and will further extend our leadership position in the European market.”

As with the other IBXs in Paris, PA4 will benefit from a high level of carrier connectivity combined with the Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange and Equinix Internet Exchange™, making PA4 an ideal place to procure competitive bandwidth costs and optimize network performance. It will be built out in phases, eventually adding a total of more than 11,000 square meters of space and more than 4,500 cabinet equivalents, positioning Equinix to be the leading data center provider in the French market. The first phase of the project, which will provide more than 1,500 cabinet equivalents when complete, is expected to cost approximately $145 million (the majority of which will be used to purchase the site and support the development of all three phases), with much of the investment occurring in 2012. The facility will be built using the latest energy efficient technologies and meet ISO9001 certification.

New Features for Amazon EC2 Networking

Amazon have announced a set of features that expand the power and value of the Virtual Private Cloud, describing this new collection of features as “virtual networking for Amazon EC2. You can now create a network topology in the AWS cloud that closely resembles the one in your physical data center including public, private, and DMZ subnets. Instead of dealing with cables, routers, and switches you can design and instantiate your network programmatically. You can use the AWS Management Console (including a slick new wizard), the command line tools, or the APIs. This means that you could store your entire network layout in abstract form, and then realize it on demand.”

New features include:
A new VPC Wizard to streamline the setup process for a new VPC.

Full control of network topology including subnets and routing.

Access controls at the subnet and instance level, including rules for outbound traffic.

Internet access via an Internet Gateway.

Elastic IP Addresses for EC2 instances within a VPC.

Support for Network Address Translation (NAT).

Option to create a VPC that does not have a VPN connection.

Virtual Internet Awarded VMware Enterprise Partner Status

Virtual Internet (VI) announced they have achieved VMware Enterprise Partner status. Virtual Internet has been a partner with the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure VMware for years by now.

VMware has quite literally knocked down all contenders in the enterprise space since it come online offering the most compact, scalable, secure, and portable virtual machines in the cloud marketplace. ana Kryuchkova, Marketing Manager, at Virtual Internet: “At VI we do our best to deliver exactly the right hosting solution for any business.”
“So years of experience and newly gained Enterprise Partner level proves that VI demonstrates extensive expertise in working with VMware technologies and could guarantee extensive support in building virtualization solutions to meet any customer needs.”
Having been in the web-hosting sector for many years, Virtual Internet has gained the reputation of a reliable and supportive hosting provider with flexible, agile service delivery. VI Enterprise Cloud solutions built on VMware’s industry-leading virtualisation technology guarantees 100% hardware and network uptime and the flexibility of a virtual private server (VPS) at lower costs compared to dedicated hardware.
“We use virtualisation to match resources to any customer workloads in real time, with the flexibility to add or remove resources if any changes needed. With VI’s VMware-based Enterprise Cloud platform, our expert team look after all the technical details, so all it takes is a phone call to add a server, change your storage resources or add extra features like redundancy.” – said Przemyslaw Ceglowski, Operations Manager, Virtual Internet.
Virtual Internet strengthened its lead in the cloud-hosting arena by recently gaining Enterprise Partner status. This is an addition to offering free, trademarked 24/7 VI-tal support, which underpins every single custom SLA they sell to an enterprise customer.

DreamHost Announces Unlimited Bandwidth Dedicated Server Hosting

DreamHost, a global full-service web hosting company, will add a Dedicated Server product line to their portfolio of services on March 21, 2011. DreamHost already offers Shared Server, and Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting, along with Domain Name Registration.

A Dedicated Server is a physical server that is only accessed by one customer. The customer is able to utilize the full CPU and RAM resources of the hardware system. Unlike a Virtual Private Server (VPS), Dedicated does not divide the CPU among multiple customers. Therefore, the customer may utilize all of the CPU cores simultaneously for maximum performance. Dedicated is ideal for businesses or advanced users who run heavily-trafficked websites, CPU-intensive applications, or complex databases.

The Dedicated Server product line includes five bundled options to help businesses choose the appropriate hardware configuration that best fits their needs. Prices will range from USD $69 per month to $299 per month. The entry-level bundle includes a server with a Linux operating system, a dual-core processor, two gigabytes of RAM, a 250 gigabyte hard drive, and one dedicated static IP address.

Unlike the other dedicated hosting companies, all of DreamHost’s Dedicated Server bundles include an unmetered data transfer bandwidth and an automatic managed backup of the entire website. DreamHost is able to backup the whole site because there is no limit on the backup’s storage capacity. Subscribers never have to worry about paying surprise bandwidth overage charges or losing all of their data due to a hard drive failure.

The Dedicated Servers are housed in a secure datacenter that is owned and operated by DreamHost. All of the bundles include around-the-clock (24×7) live support, a guaranteed 4-hour hardware replacement policy, and up to three callbacks per month from an expert technical support representative. DreamHost is committed to excellent customer service and backs their reliable network with a 100% uptime guarantee policy.

Blue Coat Adds Support for Trend Micro Anti-Virus Engine on ProxyAV Appliances

Blue Coat Systems, Inc., a leading provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions, today announced that its Blue Coat® ProxyAV™ family of appliances now supports the Trend Micro anti-virus engine. Blue Coat now supports five leading anti-virus engines on its ProxyAV appliances, giving organizations the flexibility to choose the solution that best addresses their specific requirements and preferences. ProxyAV appliances enable organizations to scan 100 percent of content and work in conjunction with ProxySG® appliances to provide comprehensive Web security at a company’s Internet gateway without compromising network performance.

“With rapidly proliferating Web threats, companies need comprehensive protection at their Internet gateways that can operate at the speed of business,” said Nigel Hawthorn, VP EMEA Marketing at Blue Coat Systems. “The combination of our ProxySG and ProxyAV appliances has proven to be an essential real-time Web defense for enterprises and organizations around the world, and the addition of Trend Micro on ProxyAV gives businesses the flexibility to choose a best-of-breed solution for their specific requirements.”

The Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution combines inline malware scanning and policy-based controls with the cloud-based intelligence of the Blue Coat WebPulse™ service. The solution provides high performance protection at the Internet gateway and automatic security intelligence about emerging and evolving Web-based threats to users. Additionally, ProxyAV appliances provide information about newly discovered malicious downloads to the WebPulse cloud, which unites more than 70 million users.

As an inline anti-malware scanning device, the ProxyAV appliance analyzes all file downloads from user-authenticated Web 2.0 sites, Web mail, file sharing and other methods of content delivery while enforcing corporate IT policies related to that content. Designed specifically for high performance networks, the Blue Coat ProxyAV appliances enable proactive scanning-based behavioral analysis and heuristics, as well as scanning using signature-based intelligence. Unlike competitive solutions that can only analyze a few layers or only scan smaller files, ProxyAV can analyze up to 99 layers of compressed archives and scan files up to 2 GB in size, providing further protection against inbound threats.

“By adding inline anti-malware scanning at the Internet gateway, organizations have another layer of defense and can eliminate threats before they reach end users, making it more difficult for malware attacks to succeed,” said Wael Mohamed, executive vice president, global alliances, Trend Micro.
